COMMERCIAL STREETS IN POITIERS

Home _ What to do _ Shopping _ Commercial streets

Gambetta Street

You take this pedestrian path along Place Leclerc (H&M, Undiz, Hema) and reach the Palais des Comtes de Poitou-Ducs d'Aquitaine or branch off on Rue des Cordeliers to reach Rue du Marché. There are a number of shops for the general public, as well as independent shops offering leading brands of ready-to-wear, shoes and decoration. A few food shops (Merling, Kusmi Tea, Rannou-Métivier) are also on the route.

Rue des Grandes Ecoles

It starts from the town hall and joins the Passage Cordeliers, built partly on the remains of a former convent. The architecture of the Maison Vannier (21st century department store) has been preserved. You can admire it at the back, rue du Marché, where Jérémie Chosson, the only cheese maker open in the afternoon and outside the covered market, has taken up residence. Before this island of some forty shops (Monoprix, Fnac, Nature et Découvertes, Zara, Mango, Søstrene Grene...), a stopover is required at La Belle Aventure, a bookshop whose patron is none other than the writer Alberto Manguel. A very complete youth section.

Rue de la Regratterie and rue des Vieilles Boucheries

These two pedestrian streets lined with medieval facades connect the court area with the Notre-Dame church. Welcome to the golden triangle of independent fashion boutiques. You will also find a small flea market, an Ali Baba's cave for board games enthusiasts, a wine shop and restaurants.

Grand'Rue and rue de la Cathédrale

These steep streets are historic! As you stroll around, look up to admire the mansions and half-timbered houses. As for the shops, if you like to go hunting (trinkets, furniture, records...), discover designers (jewellery, clothes, decoration...), visit art galleries, drink a roasted coffee on the spot (Le Moulin à Café), buy an umbrella or a ceramic made in Poitiers, you've come to the right place.

Carnot and Magenta Streets

Restaurants, cafés, tea rooms and terraces specializing in idleness are the lifeblood of the neighborhood. On the shopping side, you will find men's clothing, a florist, a shoemaker, a butcher, an organic bakery, a pastry chef, a delicatessen and gourmet bar Le Comptoir du Sud-Ouest, natural beauty products and many services.
